Happy 13th birthday to Marcus

Happy 13th milestone birthday to Marcus! He had a great day of fun adventuring with a friend on Mt Hood's Alpine Slides (ask him sometime about his big crash - don't worry, he is okay...  but ride those slides at your own risk!). We celebrated with birthday cereal, blackberry pie, many favorite foods, affirmations and presents. This kid (excuse me, this YOUNG MAN) is such an amazing person, with a sharp mind, a huge heart, and a bent towards adventure that always makes me smile. Case in point, he has been doing solo night bike rides all around town. Recently he told us he meandered his way up to the Hillsboro Stadium, and somehow found his way home. Honestly, if he weren't the youngest in this family, I would be freaking out. He is growing up, and we are SO proud of him. Love you, buddy!

In other Marcus news, he has had a great summer at youth group. Wednesday nights have been full of fun and faith, and he went to his first overnight church camp! Aside from Outdoor School, this was his first adventure of this kind. He had an awesome time, and already is looking forward to next year. I took a pic of the white board in the youth room, where the leaders wrote down each kid's name that they have served this year. Amazing!

Adventures in Portland: visiting the world's largest independent bookstore right in our backyard, and noticing how Portland is also full of other things besides books. It's not funny, but well... the scrawled note on our parking meter was just completely on the nose. He got a cool new Garfield book!

Marcus taught a bunch of his friends how to play poker this summer, and enjoyed many other fun summer adventures with his buddies.

Work hard, play hard!
